Tedisco Announces New "Main Street" Bi-Partisan Economic Advisory Council

Congressional candidate offers Jobs Plan to get economy on Road to Recovery

Today, 20th Congressional District candidate Jim Tedisco (R,C-Saratoga) announced a new Bi-Partisan Economic Advisory Council at the Sportsplex of Halfmoon. The Council is made up of more than 40 small business owners from across the district and will advise Tedisco on "Main Street" economic issues facing Upstate New Yorkers so he can help create jobs, cut taxes and turn this economy around.

Tedisco's council includes representatives from restaurants, hotels, farming, academia, building and trades, automobile dealers and auto suppliers, landscaping, barbers, finance, recreation and sports facilities, and day care. This Council is especially relevant given the news today of the unemployment rate rising to 8.1 percent nationally and 7.6 percent statewide.

"As a representative, it's important to be a good listener and that's exactly what I'll do in Congress. This council represents the values of Main Street and will be a sounding board for helping me find solutions in Washington to get our economy moving again," Tedisco said.

Tedisco also outlined his overriding principles for creating and protecting jobs in the 20th Congressional District. Tedisco's Jobs Plan would put our economy back on the road to recovery by helping small businesses reduce costs, modernize and become more competitive. Specifically, Tedisco's Jobs Plan:

· Reduces Costs: Offer tax credits for small businesses (under 500 employees) that retain 100 percent of their staff and additional tax credits for small businesses that increase employment. The plan has a federal tax credit for small businesses that hire people receiving unemployment benefits, and another credit for companies with 100 or more employees if those companies agree to maintain employment levels for three years.

· Modernizes Our Economy: Provide tax credits for energy efficient capital investments to protect existing jobs and lay the groundwork for future growth and increased competitiveness.

· Increases Competitiveness: Pass Association Health Plan legislation to allow small businesses to provide affordable health coverage to employees.

"All across the 20th Congressional District, working families and small businesses are hurting. People are losing their jobs and too many businesses are closing. Small businesses are the backbone of our communities and will play a key role in getting our economy back on the road to recovery," Tedisco said.

"In Congress, I will be the voice for small businesses and job growth. I am the only candidate for Congress who has actually cut job-killing taxes by $18.8 billion — that's real tax cuts for real people, including the STAR program, Property Tax Rebate Checks, cuts to gasoline taxes, and income tax cuts for working families," Tedisco said.

"Middle class families and small businesses deserve their fair share of support and I will work night and day to deliver it," Tedisco concluded.
